RAPID INTERVENTION LEVEL II

This 14-hour class is designed to teach more advanced RIT skills to firefighters who have taken the RIT I class (prerequisite). The class is 90% hands on, with a short classroom session the first day. The lecture will focus on the use of thermal Imaging Camera’s (TIC’s), and an in depth review of rope assisted search procedures (RASP) to be used by RIT teams. The class will build upon the standard RIT techniques previously taught and will enable students to learn and practice skills for more complex rescues. The class will also teach students firefighter quick exit survival skills.

Skills to be taught:

  • Ladder bailouts
  • Rope bailouts
  • Quick exit survival skills using our unique portable bailout prop
  • Extricating a firefighter through a hole in the floor
  • Insertion of the rescuer
  • Search and retrieval of the down firefighter
  • Rope extraction
  • Hose extraction
  • Removal of the rescuer
  • Firefighter self rescue for entanglements
  • Wall breeching (actual forced entry through drywall) and firefighter techniques to pass through
  • Thermal Imaging Camera hands on session
  • High rung ladder removal techniques
  • Review of RIT tools
  • RIT search and extraction drills

All drills are designed to challenge the student and create competent RIT team members. Students will primarily work in small groups to allow ample time for repetition of new skills. Safety will be emphasized at all times along with the use of an accountability system. The class is very physical and students will be wearing full PPE.
