Rapid Intervention Training, BASIC (14 hours)

RIT LEVEL I

This 14-hour class is designed to teach the basics of Rapid Intervention. It also is designed to make the student very aware of the importance of RIT and why we must be dedicated to maintaining training in this discipline. The class is 10% classroom and 90% hands on training. The class is designed to offer a standard set of techniques allowing RIT teams to be staffed with members from different departments, ensuring a trained team in place.
Skills to be taught include:

 

  • 1 and 2 rescuer drags
  • Rescues up and down the stairs
  • The use of webbing and ropes in RIT, includes rescue knots
  • Emergency removal of an SCBA
  • Denver drill
  • Removing firefighters, with and without SCBA, through windows
  • Ladder rescues of the down firefighter (2 carries)
  • Rescues through a basement window
  • Team searching with a Thermal Imaging Camera (TIC), positions and roles
  • Supplying emergency air to the down firefighter (this is KEY in our area as we have numerous brands and models of SCBA’s and many lack interoperability

FS-RIT 100

This class is very physical and all students will be wearing full PPE. Students must complete the entire class to qualify for a certificate.
