RAPID INTERVENTION OPERATIONS OFFICERS CLASS

When a mayday is called the activation, command and control the RIT operation and the overall fire ground operation is critical. Many of the skills needed are unique to Rapid Intervention operations and a capable Officer must possess the skills and knowledge prior to having to implement them.

This 9-hour class is designed to help prepare those officers who might be involved in a RIT operation. The class discusses basic RIT knowledge so that those in charge can understand the operation better. Three levels of leadership are discussed; Command, The RIT sector Officer and the RIT Company Officer. Each level is looked at in depth and the progressive skills needed for each level is explored in depth.

The class will take the students through a RIT activate from the mayday through the post incident actions such a CISD. The import role of the Safety Officer is examined and the skills that a capable Safety Officer must possess are outlined and studied. Fireground Accountability Systems are looked at and will lead into a wide-ranging discussion of what constitutes a “good system”.

The class covers in depth skills that relate to specific performance tasks such as ongoing size up, fire suppression activities during the RIT operation, and the management of personnel, both staged and actively committed.
